Maldives expresses gratitude for contributions from Japan

First Lady Fazna Ahmed has expressed gratitude for the tremendous contributions made by the Government of Japan across all sectors of the Maldives, especially highlighting Japanese aid to the Maldives in the education sector. The remarks were made by the first lady during a courtesy call by the Ambassador of Japan to the Maldives Takeuchi Midori.

At the meeting held at the President’s Official Residence, First Lady Fazna and Ambassador Takeuchi shed light on the long-standing cooperation and bilateral ties between the two countries. The ambassador went on to note that this year marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and she shared her ideas for a vibrant commemoration of the occasion.

The first lady and the ambassador spoke at length on culture, people-to-people connections, and prospects for collaboration in the education and social sectors, and expressed hope for further strengthening relations through collaborations on shared interests.

The Maldives and Japan established diplomatic relations in 1967.
