Population of Hiya flats exceeds 22,000

Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has revealed the population of Hiya flats in Hulhumale’ Phase II has exceeded 22,000.

As per a survey conducted by HDC to identify the challenges faced by residents of Hiya flats, a total of 4,561 units are currently occupied in the Hiya towers. With an average of 5 people accommodated in each flat, the population of the Hiya flats has exceeded 22,800.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of HDC Suhail Ahmed revealed recipients of 6,399 flats under the Hiya housing project have signed the agreements with HDC. However, he noted the finishing works of some of these flats are yet to be completed. He said the survey has helped to identify the reasons for these delays, adding decisions will be made based on the findings of the survey.

Recipients of Hiya flats began moving into their flats in August last year. It is estimated that about 35,000 people will be living in the Hiya flats once all flats are occupied.
