Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has stated the health sector of the Maldives will undergo many more positive changes this year.
Speaking at the ceremony held to mark the completion of the procurement of 96 ambulances to the atolls by State Trading Organisation (STO), Health Minister Naseem noted STO has been conducting multiple projects across the country as part of the efforts to strengthen the health sector. Noting there have also been many obstacles and challenges in carrying out such projects, the health minister said the government is working on addressing and resolving such challenges. He added the health sector has moved forward significantly since the current administration assumed power, and expressed confidence the government’s strategies for the health sector will revolutionise healthcare services provided in the country.
Speaking on some of the ongoing and planned projects in the health sector, Minister Naseem noted the development of seven new hospitals will begin this year, as well as the development of mobile laboratories. He added expansion projects of 17 hospitals and health centres have been contracted.
The project to procure 96 ambulances was contracted to STO in June last year. The ambulances were procured in several batches, with the last batch procured earlier this month.
