Maldives State Shipping (MSS) has flown the national flag on the flag staff of the new bulk carrier MSS Chrome.
MSS purchased the new bulk carrier last month for the import of construction materials. MSS revealed the national flag was flown on the vessel for the first time on May 5, making it the largest vessel ever registered under the Maldivian flag. MSS revealed the bulk carrier will arrive in the Maldives with its first shipment of sand and aggregates later this month.
MSS Chrome is the second vessel to be registered under MSS. The company bought its first vessel, MSS Galena, last year. Prior to the purchase of its own vessels, MSS had been importing cargo on chartered vessels.
MSS is a subsidiary company of State Trading Company (STO) which was established to reduce the price of goods imported into the country. The company began its services in April 2020.
