President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have participated in the torch relay held to mark the start of the Majeedi Run. The event is held as part of Majeediyya School’s 95th-anniversary celebrations and to start the countdown to the centennial anniversary.
President Solih and First Lady Fazna joined the torch relay in front of the Official Residence of the President. President Solih was passed the torch by the school’s captain, after which he handed over the torch to Ibrahim Ismail, the president of the steering committee of the event. The school management also presented the president and the first lady with invitations to participate in the Majeedi Run and designated event jerseys.
Majeedi Run began on May 13 at Majeediyya School and will conclude after 95 hours on May 17. Runners had passed the torch to participants in 14 areas in Male’ City after beginning the torch relay. Participants of the event include students of Majeediyya School from grades 1-9 and sports enthusiasts.
Majeediyya School has begun a special five-year countdown for its 100th anniversary. The school was founded in 1927 under the name Madharusathul Salahiyya. The name was changed to Majeediyya by former President Mohamed Ameen. Majeediyya School first opened with 60 students and now teaches around 1,500 students.
