AgroNat to lease farming plots from two islands

Agro National Corporation (AgroNat) has revealed land plots will be leased for farmers from two islands allocated for the company.

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture handed over Mulidhoo in Haa Alif Atoll and Gaadhoo in Laamu Atoll to AgroNat in May 2021.

Speaking to PSM News, Manager, Business Development of AgroNat Hassan Afsal said that one of the biggest tasks of AgroNat this year is to develop two islands handed over to the company and allocate land plots for farming.

AgroNat said a policy is being developed to lease land plots to farmers from the two islands. The island will be developed with the necessary equipment and arrangements for agriculture, according to AgroNat. Further, the corporation added that farmers can decide whether they want to stay on the island or return to their respective islands as accommodation and transportation will be arranged.

AgroNat was established by the government to market agricultural produce from local farms and provide a better income for farmers. The corporation has established contracts with farmers from 68 islands. AgroNat provides technical and financial assistance to local farmers to produce these items and helps them to market their produce.
