Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported an increase in dengue fever cases in the Maldives this year.
HPA revealed dengue fever cases usually increase every year during the rainy season. HPA revealed dengue cases have increased this year compared to last year, while the cases had also increased two-fold over the last two months. As such, HPA revealed 92 dengue cases were reported in April, while the figure jumped to 185 in May.
HPA has advised the public to take certain precautions in order to avoid contracting dengue fever. As such, HPA advised the public to clean or remove containers that could have a collection of water that would provide a breeding environment for mosquitos. Furthermore, HPA has also advised the public to use mosquito repellent and lotion, and to keep doors and windows closed during sunrise and sunset.
HPA also revealed flu cases have increased in the Maldives over the last two months. As such, HPA revealed that 12,978 flu cases were reported in April, and another 13,361 flu cases were reported in May. HPA also revealed that 1,824 cases of diarrhea and vomiting were reported in May.
HPA advised the public to take extra precautions on personal hygiene and to limit gatherings in order to control the spread of communicable diseases.
