Youth Minister says work to fulfill pledges exceeded expectations

Minister of Youth, Sports, and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof has stated that the work to fulfill the presidential pledges has exceeded expectations.

Speaking at the Parliament, Minister Mahloof said that the development of the sports sector in the Maldives has exceeded the expectations of the public and that work is still ongoing to develop sports in the atolls. The minister said that upcoming projects include developing an indoor volleyball court in Feeali in Faafu Atoll and that more projects will be announced soon. He also noted that the completion of some projects has been delayed for various reasons.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has made several pledges for the sports sector, including removing political influence from the Football Association of the Maldives (FAM), increasing the role of women in sports, and establishing football grounds and indoor sports stadiums in all inhabited islands.

The youth ministry stated that it has been developing futsal grounds in the atolls in accordance with the pledges. As such, a total of 40 futsal grounds have already been developed and 50 futsal grounds are in development. The ministry aims to complete the development of 30 futsal grounds this year.
