MIRA records an income of USD83 million in May

Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) has recorded an income of USD83 million in May.

The income generated in May was 63% higher compared to the income generated in May last year as per the statistics published by MIRA. It was also 12.8% higher than the projected income for May.

MIRA attributed the increased income in May to the increase in tourist arrivals compared to last year. MIRA stated higher figures were generated in all tourism-related taxes. The authority also stated the amendments brought to the collection of airport taxes and fees also contributed to the higher income of MIRA.

The Goods and Services Tax (GST) contributed 64.7% of MIRA’s income for May, with USD53.7 million as per the statistics. Meanwhile, USD6.9 million was collected as Income Tax, contributing 8.3% of the total. The authority also collected USD6.3 million in Green Tax, USD3.9 million in airport development fees, and USD3.8 million in Departure Tax.
