AEH to establish mental health centre in Feydhoo

Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) has stated that its mental health centre will be established in Feydhoo, Addu City.

The Government of India has provided grant aid of USD43,000 for the development of a mental health centre in Addu. The AEH stated the project to establish the mental health centre is in the tendering stage and that the facility will be established in an existing building next to Feydhoo’s health centre. It stated the work to redesign the building will be completed by the end of the month and that a complete plan to complete the project has been submitted to the Government of the Maldives and the High Commission of India.

The mental health centre is being established under the High Impact Community Development Programme (HICDP) grant assistance scheme of India. The number of HICDP projects being conducted in the Maldives has reached 27. The HICDP projects include the drug detoxification and rehabilitation centre and the eco-tourism zone in Addu. The HICDP projects cover the areas of eco-tourism, sustainable development, agriculture, heritage and culture, health, island infrastructure, and education sectors.

The overall allocation for the projects in the Maldives is USD10 million. The projects are designed as per the priorities of island communities, with most of them being implemented by local councils to enhance their capacities in project execution.
