Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported an increase in COVID-19 cases in the Maldives over the past one week.
As per the weekly COVID-19 statistics published by HPA, the Maldives recorded 142 cases last week, which is a 69% increase compared to the previous week. Last week’s cases include 50 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, 40 cases from inhabited islands in atolls and 52 cases from resorts, industrial islands and other regions.
HPA revealed the COVID-19 positivity rate and hospitalisations have also increased this month. As such, HPA revealed 11 people have been admitted in hospital for COVID-19 treatment during the first 12 days of June, as compared to 15 people during the whole month of May.
HPA has advised the public to take precautionary measures to curb the spread of COVID-19. As such, HPA has urged symptomatic individuals to get tested immediately and isolate themselves. The agency also urged individuals with symptoms, as well as high-risk individuals and their close contacts to wear face masks when around others.
Furthermore, HPA has urged those who have not completed two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine yet to complete their dosage. All individuals above the age of 12 are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. Individuals who completed their second dose more than six months ago are also eligible to receive a booster shot.
