Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) has advised all individuals to wear masks inside the hospital premises.
The IGMH issued the advisory in response to reports from the Health Protection Agency (HPA) that COVID-19 cases in the Maldives had increased in the past week. In response to the situation, IGMH has decided to strengthen prevention measures. As such, patients, bystanders, and all individuals visiting the hospital are advised to wear masks. The hospital also asked all parties to cooperate in the efforts being made to prevent the spread of the virus.
As per the weekly COVID-19 statistics published by HPA, the Maldives recorded 142 cases last week, which is a 69% increase compared to the previous week. Last week’s cases included 50 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, 40 cases from inhabited islands in atolls, and 52 cases from resorts, industrial islands, and other regions.
HPA revealed the COVID-19 positivity rate and hospitalisations have also increased this month. As such, HPA revealed that 11 people have been admitted for COVID-19 treatment during the first 12 days of June, as compared to 15 people during the whole month of May.
