Two more resorts to be opened in Lhaviyani Atoll this year

Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom has announced that two more resorts will be opened in Lhaviyani Atoll this year. The minister made the announcement in response to a question posed by parliamentarians.

Speaking at the Parliament of the Maldives, Minister Mausoom said that two resorts will be opened in Lhaviyani Atoll this year as part of the efforts to expand tourism in different parts of the country. The minister said Lhaviyani Atoll is also a very good area to develop cultural tourism. He said the promotion of cultural tourism in rural areas was also discussed at the recently held Global Summit on Community Based Tourism organised by the United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) and the tourism ministry to mark the 50th anniversary of Maldivian tourism industry.

Furthermore, the minister has earlier announced that 10 new resorts will be opened this year. The minister stated two new resorts have been opened so far this year and two more resorts will be opened in the coming years, which is an additional 3,500 beds. The government now aims to bring in 8,000 beds into operation annually, including resorts, guesthouses, hotels, and liveaboards.
