The Ministry of Tourism has revealed over 780,000 tourist arrivals have been recorded so far this year.
The statistics from the tourism ministry show that 784,170 tourists visited the Maldives in the first six months of the year, which is lower compared to the 831,549 arrivals recorded in the same period in 2019, prior to the COVID-10 pandemic. However, the number is higher compared to the 382,816 arrivals in 2020 and 494,924 arrivals in 2021.
The statistics also show that the highest number of tourists visited the Maldives from India this year with 115,228 arrivals. The UK is the second-largest source market with 94,279 arrivals and Russia is third with 77,783 arrivals. The Maldives currently has 164 resorts, 662 guesthouses, and 150 liveaboards in operation.
The government is holding events throughout 2022 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the Maldives Tourism this year. The tourism ministry and stakeholders of the industry are working to register 1.6 million tourist arrivals this year.
