AgroNat establishes three distribution centres

Agro National Corporation (AgroNat) has established three distribution centres in the atolls.

AgroNat is establishing distribution centres with cold storage facilities in nine regions in the Maldives with assistance from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). The distribution centres are being established to deliver fresh products cultivated by Maldivian farmers. The distribution centres consist of an office, cold storage area, and other areas to store fruits and vegetables. The centres will also store agricultural equipment and resources.

AgroNat stated that distribution centres have now been built in Gan in Laamu Atoll, Manadhoo in Noonu Atoll, and Kinolhas in Raa Atoll, and that construction of the other distribution centres are underway in Magoodhoo in Faafu Atoll, Isdhoo and Kalaidhoo in Laamu Atoll and Nilandhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll as well as Fuvahmulah City and Addu City.

AgroNat was established by the government to market agricultural produce from local farms and provide a better income for farmers. The corporation has established contracts with farmers for various different types of fruits and vegetables. AgroNat is providing technical and financial assistance to local farmers to produce these items, and helping them to market their produce.
