Over 42,000 passengers travelling on Maldivian during holidays

The national airline, Maldivian, reveals over 42,000 passengers are travelling with the airline during the period of extended operations ahead of the Eid holidays.

Speaking to PSM News, Deputy Managing Director of Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) Aishath Jennifer said the national airline increased its domestic flight operations between June 26 and July 10 to cater to the increased demand ahead of the Eid holidays. She revealed over 42,000 passengers are travelling on domestic flights of the airline during this period.

The national airline operates domestic flights to 14 different destinations. The airline operates as many as 6-7 flights daily to some destinations, including Kaadedhdhoo, Kadhdhoo, Kooddoo, Maafaru, Ifuru and Hanimaadhoo.

The deputy managing director of IASL revealed the national airline increased its operations to destinations with fewer daily flights. As such, she noted additional flights were operated to several destinations including Hoarafushi, Thimarafushi, Kulhudhuffushi and Addu City.

Meanwhile, Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) revealed a record number of domestic traffic was recorded at Velana International Airport (VIA) on July 7. As such, MACL revealed over 3,300 passengers travelled across 125 domestic flights on July 7.
