Customs records increase in import-export revenue in June

Maldives Customs Service has revealed the import-export revenue for June was an increase compared to the same period last year.

As per the statistics published by Customs, the Maldives recorded an import-export revenue of USD26 million in June this year, which is an increase of 44% compared to USD18 million in revenue recorded in June 2021. The statistics also revealed that USD388 million in goods were imported in June, which is an increase of 78% compared to USD189 million in June 2021.

Oman, India, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Malaysia were the biggest contributors to imports. As such, USD72 million in goods were imported from Oman, while USD41 million in goods were imported from India, USD36 million were imported from China, USD28 million were imported from the UAE, and USD28 million were imported from Malaysia.

Furthermore, goods worth USD10 million were exported from the Maldives in June 2021 while the figure stood at USD16 million in June this year, which is an increase of 60%. The Maldives exported the highest number of goods to Thailand, the United Kingdom (UK), Germany, India, and France last month. Around 58% of the goods were exported to Thailand while 10% were exported to the UK. Among the most exported items include various fish products.

The statistics also revealed that Customs processed 19,313 declarations in June this year, which is an increase compared to the 13,809 declarations processed in June 2021.
