HPA reveals further drop in COVID-19 cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has revealed the number of COVID-19 cases is continuing to decrease.

The Maldives recorded 394 cases of COVID-19 during the week spanning July 17-23 as per the latest statistics shared by HPA. The cases recorded last week included 69 cases from the Greater Male’ Region, 236 cases from inhabited islands in the atolls, and 89 cases from resorts, industrial islands, and other regions.

HPA revealed the COVID-19 positivity rate and hospitalisations have also decreased. As such, HPA revealed 28 people were admitted in hospital for COVID-19 treatment last week, which is a decrease compared to the 35 hospitalisations the previous week, and 54 hospitalisations in the first week of July.

HPA has advised the public to take precautionary measures while travelling for the holidays and to test for COVID-19 if they show signs of illness. The health agency also urged individuals to avoid public gatherings and to wear masks outside.

Since COVID-19 was first detected in the Maldives in March 2020, the country has recorded 183,302 cases. The country’s COVID-19 death toll currently stands at 307.
