HPA reports increase in cases of flu and other common diseases

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has reported an increase in cases of flu and other common diseases in the Maldives.

As per the latest statistics of HPA, cases of flu, dengue fever and diarrhea increased in July, compared to the previous month. As such, dengue fever cases increased from 294 in June to 322 in July. This includes 88 cases reported in the last week of July, compared to 68 cases reported in the last week of June.

Furthermore, HPA revealed 27,553 cases of flu were reported in July, compared to 21,802 cases in June. HPA revealed 26 individuals have tested positive for influenza this year.

Meanwhile, the statistics also showed 3,103 cases of diarrhea were reported in July, compared to 2,379 such cases in June.

HPA has advised the public to take extra precautions to ensure cleanliness and hygiene in order to avoid flu and other common diseases. The agency has also urged the public to remove any possible mosquito breeding sites in domestic households and to use appropriate clothing and mosquito repellent to stay safe from diseases caused by mosquitoes.
