STO wheat flour factory to be developed by end of 2023

State Trading Organisation (STO) has stated the development of its wheat flour factory is expected to be completed by the end of 2023.

STO announced the decision to develop a wheat flour factory last year. The factory is set to be developed in Kulhudhuffushi City.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of STO Hussain Amr said the project to develop the wheat flour factory in Kulhudhuffushi is now set to begin. He said the development of the factory building will commence soon, while efforts will begin simultaneously to bring in the operational equipment and machinery for the factory. He said the factory is expected to be developed by the end of next year.

Speaking further, Amr noted the wheat flour factory will help to reduce the government’s expenditure on providing staple food subsidies, while also ensuring a supply of fresh wheat flour. He noted it would also allow flour to be stored for longer periods and ensure the safety of the flour for consumption.

STO is developing a wheat flour factory in the Maldives as part of efforts to ensure food security of the country. As the Maldives is not able to produce wheat locally, STO will be importing wheat and manufacturing wheat flour in the factory.
