Traffic changes made to Ameenee Magu for minibus service

Maldives Police Service (MPS) has made changes to the road traffic in Ameenee Magu ahead of the commencement of the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) minibus service.

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the test trials for the minibus service in Male' City. As such, changes have been made to reduce traffic congestion on the bus routes.

Speaking to PSM News, Superintendent Hussain Sameer said that major changes have been made to the traffic in Ameenee Magu and that four-wheeled vehicles would only be allowed to travel on one side of certain parts of the road from 1130hrs to 1800hrs. He noted that the regulation is already being implemented in some parts of Majeedhee Magu during school hours. He also said that additional traffic police officers will be active and will take action against drivers who violate the new regulations.

Other changes include establishing more parking zones and banning parking on bus routes. The minibuses will be travelling on Majeedhee Magu, Ameenee Magu, Orchid Magu, and Fareedhee Magu. A total of 12 buses are being used for the service.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim experienced the first scheduled bus for the minibus service with other senior company officials. The first bus of the service started from the Orchid Route, West Park bus stop at 0545hrs.

MTCC stated that the service will be free of charge during the first two weeks. In addition, school students, disabled persons, senior citizens, and children under three years of age will be able to travel on the minibuses free of charge throughout the duration of the service.
