Ghana has proposed looking into investment opportunities from Maldivian enterprises to help its tourism sector. The discussions took place during a meeting held after the new High Commissioner of Ghana to the Maldives Kwaku Asomah-Cheremeh presented his credentials to President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
At the meeting held after the ceremony, President Solih welcomed High Commissioner Kwaku to the Maldives and congratulated him on his appointment. He expressed hope for further strengthening the 33-year-long stable diplomatic relations between the two countries through increased bilateral and multilateral cooperation. High Commissioner Kwaku expressed gratitude for accepting him to the Maldives. He discussed mutually beneficial collaboration between the two countries, particularly in agriculture and tourism. He also noted that Ghana could learn a lot from the tourism industry of the Maldives.
President Solih highlighted that this year marked 50 years since the tourism industry was established in the Maldives and assured support for the development of Ghana’s tourism sector. He also said that the administration was focused on promoting sustainable practices in the country's tourism industry.
Before concluding the meeting, President Solih expressed hope for increased people-to-people contact between the two countries, which he noted was essential to strengthening bilateral ties and boosting trade and investment. They also reaffirmed their commitment to collaborate in the international fora to advance issues of mutual interest.
The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Ghana on August 10, 1989.
