President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has appointed Mariyam Shafeeq as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Social Protection Agency (NSPA).
President's Office said Mariyam Shafeeq was appointed to the post following the resignation of Ismail Azzam Wajeeh. Mariyam Shafeeq holds a Master's degree in Health Economics from Chulalongkorn University, Thailand. She has previously held senior positions in the agency, the health sector, and other government agencies.
Furthermore, Azzam has since been appointed as the new Managing Director of Aasandha Company Limited, according to the Privatisation and Corporatisation Board (PCB). Additionally, Ali Ikram has been appointed as a Board Director at Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO).
NSPA, formed under the National Social Health Insurance Act in 2008, is mandated to administer the National Social Health Insurance Scheme and by executive order under the same act mandated to conduct social protection programs identified by the Government of the Maldives. NSPA is also the responsible agency to regulate and conduct social protection programmes under the Social Protection Act.
