Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) service has opened numerous job opportunities across the country.

Statistics published by MTCC show that RTL service has opened 308 job opportunities so far. They include 85 jobs opened for the RTL high-speed ferry service in Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll, 19 jobs for the RTL bus service in Laamu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City, and Addu City, 155 jobs for the RTL bus service in the Greater Male’ Region, and 49 jobs for admin/support positions.

MTCC plans to further expand the RTL service, which will increase opportunities for those most in need of employment to be able to work on their residential island or atoll. The state-owned company currently has 17 ferries in Zone 1, with each vessel employing five staff, which are two captains and three crewmen. Employees are also hired for work at the terminal and administrative offices. As such, over 100 employees are currently working for the RTL ferry service in Zone 1. The company has also provided job opportunities for women in the RTL bus service.

The RTL ferry service was established in Zone 1 of the National Public Ferry Network, which is a large-scale project that introduces efficient, affordable, and convenient passenger and cargo ferry services to all administrative islands of the country. In line with the Decentralisation Act, it aims to facilitate inclusive regional development by connecting people and services, accelerating social and economic growth, improving efficiency in the delivery of public services, and improving mobility and accessibility for all citizens in all areas of the nation. The government aims to connect all Maldivian islands using the ferry network by the end of 2023.
