Kendhoo Island Council has inaugurated a project to develop a front office for traditional medicine.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, President of Kendhoo Island Council Ibrahim Abdul Rahman said the main purpose of the building is to eliminate the need for people to wait at the harbour for medical services. He said the council intends to expand the traditional medicine of Kendhoo abroad. He said the council has already treated visitors from abroad and said the patients were satisfied with the treatment.
The front office would be open 24 hours a day and visitors will receive complete information about the island. The practitioners have thanked the council for its efforts to make traditional medicine tourism a reality.
Kendhoo, Baa Atoll, is famous for its traditional medicine, especially for the treatment of arthritis and various other ailments. The queue for treatment of traditional medicine is long. Kendhoo was once famous as a treatment hub for Maldivian diseases, but now all diseases except eye diseases are treated on the island. Traditional medicine has been revived and practiced in Kendhoo for a number of years. The council also aims to establish an institute to treat and teach traditional medicine.
