Ministry of Health has signed agreements with contractors to upgrade the health centres in Maalhendhoo in Nonnu Atoll and Maamendhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
The construction of the extension building to expand the services of the Maamendhoo Health Centre started earlier this year. However, the government sent a notice to the previous contractor after it failed to conduct the project according to the agreement. As such, the ministry contracted Riza Private Limited to complete the unfinished extension building and construct a laboratory. The company is tasked with completing the project within four months at a cost of USD310,682.
Furthermore, the health ministry contracted Clay Limited Liability Partnership (CLLP) to construct an extension building and the surrounding wall for Maalhendhoo Health Centre. The company is tasked with completing the project within five months at a cost of USD297,737.
The government aims to improve the quality of health centres and expand services in the atolls, which includes constructing extension buildings to increase the space and development of health centres in large populated islands to the hospital levels. The main purpose of the objective is to complete the health care system for common health diseases in the islands and expand specialist services and establish laboratories for testing common diseases in the atolls.
