Minister of Defence Mariya Ahmed Didi has met with the team from the Shooting Association of Maldives (SAM) participating in the International Shooting Sports Federation (ISSF) World Championship being held from October 12-25 in Cairo, Egypt.
During the meeting, Minister Mariya and Chief of Defence Force Major General Abdulla Shamaal encouraged the shooting team and wished them good luck. The minister said she would work to find a solution to the shortage of a range for the shooting team's training and to provide necessary assistance to promote shooting in the Maldives.
The shooting team includes two coaches and three shooters and is scheduled to leave for Egypt on October 9. The shooters participating in the ISSF World Championship are Staff Sergeant Sharafiya Abdul Rahman and Lance Corporals Ziyan Ziyau and Asifa Jaufar.
Staff Sergeant Sharafiya and Lance Corporal Asifa are competing in the women's 10m air rifle event and Lance Corporal Ziyan is also participating in the 10m air rifle event. The team will be led by Warrant Officer 1 Hassan Abdul Ghafoor and Sergeant First Class Ahmed Siraj.
