Fly Dubai to launch daily flights to Addu

The low-cost airline Fly Dubai has decided to launch daily flights to Gan International Airport, Addu City from February 4, 2023.

Fly Dubai commenced operations in the Maldives in 2013 with the launch of direct flights to Velana International Airport in Male’ City. The Dubai-based airline will be the first carrier from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to operate flights to Gan International Airport. With the start of the new daily service, the carrier will increase its frequency to the country to 28 flights a week.

Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Fly Dubai Ghaith Al Ghaith said the start of daily flights to Gan will give passengers more options to travel to the Maldives. He said the new service will reduce the commute time whether by boat or seaplane for those staying in resorts in the southern atolls.

General Sales Agent for Fly Dubai Mohamed Firaq said Addu will also be Fly Dubai’s 100th destination. He noted the airline is currently operating two daily flights to Male’ from Dubai and will be adding a third flight via Colombo from October 30.

The tourism sector in Addu has not developed as much compared to other regions due to the long flight journey for tourists after arriving at VIA. Direct flights to the city are expected to have a significant positive impact on the southernmost region of the Maldives.
