Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has conducted a cleanup operation to eliminate major mosquito breeding sites in Hulhumale’.
Over 100 participants from state-owned companies and schools were active in the cleanup operation, which aimed to curb and control the spread of dengue while keeping the environment clean and safe.
Inaugurating the cleanup operation, Parliamentarian Ali Niyaz noted the rise in dengue fever and said 40 cases are reported each week. He highlighted the importance of the public and relevant authorities working together to overcome this issue.
Managing Director Ahmed Athif said HDC is continuously working to make Hulhumale’ a safe place for residents and he praised individuals who participated in the operation. HDC stated the cleanup operation focused on cleaning the areas in phases 1 and 2 that have accumulated stagnant water as well as using chemicals to sterilise the areas.
The Maldives is seeing a rise in dengue fever cases, with 1,600 total cases recorded so far this year and five deaths. Health Protection Agency (HPA) is working with the relevant authorities to control the spread of dengue fever.
