Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has stated that 200,000 tonnes of fish have been purchased from fishermen for USD195 million.
Speaking on Television Maldives, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ismail Fauzee highlighted the improvements MIFCO has made to its operations, which has allowed the company to purchase USD201,840 tonnes of fish during the current administration. He said it was an increase compared to the USD170,392 tonnes purchased during the five years of the previous government.
Furthermore, Fauzee said ongoing projects aim to increase MIFCO’s capacity further to meet the increasing demand for fish products. He noted that 41,000 tonnes of fish have been processed at Felivaru Fisheries Complex so far during the current administration, which is a significant increase compared to the 19,000 tonnes processed during the five years of the previous government.
MIFCO has been improving its efficiency and capacity and addressing the challenges faced by fishermen. The company's projects include upgrading the Kooddoo Fisheries Complex and procuring more vessels to purchase fish.
