Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has revealed the extension buildings for the health centres in Maamendhoo and Nilandhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll will be built by early 2023.
Speaking at the Parliament, Minister Naseem said the project to construct an extension building at the Maamendhoo Health Centre is under the island council’s jurisdiction and that a new contractor was chosen to complete the project due to delays. He assured the extension building and the new laboratory will be built by February.
Furthermore, Minister Naseem said the development of the Nilandhoo Health Centre is also being handled by the island council and that a new contractor was hired to complete the project due to delays as well. He said the laboratory and the remaining part of the extension building will be completed by April.
Responding to questions at the Parliament, Minister Naseem said the Ministry of Finance is holding discussions with a China-based company to procure ambulances for service in small islands. He also said funds have been allocated in the proposed state budget for 2023 to commence crucial projects to build health infrastructure in the atolls.
