State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) has revealed that the development of the daycare centre, to alleviate the difficulties faced by working parents in caring for their children during work hours, is nearing completion.
STELCO stated it is working on importing some of the equipment needed for the daycare centre. STELCO will be the first state-owned company to establish daycare services for its working staff.
Meanwhile, Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is also working on the establishment of a daycare centre. Both companies will start offering daycare services before the end of this year. In addition, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is developing a 3,000-square-foot, six-storey daycare centre in Hulhumale'. The building is being developed with state-of-the-art facilities to accommodate children with special needs.
Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services is currently in discussions with more companies to establish daycare centres.
