Agriculture training programmes being held in three atolls

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture is conducting agriculture training programmes in three atolls.

The programmes are being conducted by the fisheries ministry, International Fund for Agriculture Development, and Maldives Agribusiness Programme. The programmes have so far been held in Vashafaru in Haa Alifu Atoll and Kanditheemu in Shaviyani Atoll. A total of 37 individuals participated in the programmes, out of which 51% were women. They were taught theoretical and practical skills that will improve crop production.

An agriculture training programme will also be held on November 18 in Muraidhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll and Feydhoo in Shaviyani Atoll. The programmes are targeted at individuals in Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll who are in the agriculture business and those who are interested in farming.

The programmes will be held for a five-year period and will teach farmers the business aspect of agriculture and how to solve the challenges they would face during their work. They will also be given information on the latest agricultural equipment and practices used for sustainable farming.

The ministry stated that it also plans to showcase the latest agricultural technology in the six islands of Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll.
