Over 1.4 million tourists visit the Maldives so far in 2022

Ministry of Tourism has recorded a 31.2% increase in tourist arrivals in 2022.

The latest statistics published by the tourism ministry show that 1.4 million tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a significant increase compared to the 1.1 million arrivals recorded in the same period last year. However, it is 3.1% lower than the 1.44 million arrivals in the same period in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 58,200 tourists arrived in the Maldives so far this month which is a 7.5% increase compared to the 54,143 arrivals in the same period in November 2019, according to statistics.

The statistics show that the highest number of tourists visited from India, with 14% of the market share. The second highest number of tourists visited from Russia with 12% of the market share, and the third highest number of tourists visited from the United Kingdom (UK) with 11% of the market share.

The government has set a target of attracting 1.6 million tourists this year. A total of 197, 453 tourists are then needed to achieve this target. The country is currently receiving an average of 4,849 tourists per day, and if the same number continues in the coming days of the year, it is expected to reach 1.64 million tourists by the end of the year.
