Customs revenue grows by 24% in October

Maldives Customs Service has revealed that the import-export revenue for October 2022 has increased by 24% compared to the same period last year.

The Maldives recorded an import-export revenue of USD24 million in October this year, which is an increase of 24% compared to the USD19.1 million in revenue recorded in October 2021, as per the statistics published by Customs. The statistics also revealed that USD300 million in goods were imported in October 2022, which is an increase of 14% compared to USD240 million in October 2021.

Meanwhile, Oman, India, China, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), and Singapore were the biggest contributors to imports. As such, USD33 million in goods were imported from Oman, while USD44 million in goods were imported from India, USD32 million were imported from the UAE, USD30 million were imported from China, and USD33 million were imported from Singapore.

Furthermore, goods worth USD14 million were exported from the Maldives in October 2021 while the figure stood at USD12 million in October this year, which is a decrease of 15%. The Maldives exported the highest number of goods to Thailand, Germany, Mauritius, the United Kingdom (UK), and France. Around 40% of the goods were exported to Thailand while 5% were exported to France. Among the most exported items include various frozen fish products.

The statistics also revealed that 20,879 declarations were processed in October this year compared to the 18,268 processed last year.
