Maldives appreciates South Korea's generous contributions

The Maldives has expressed appreciation for the generous contributions of the government of South Korea, including through agencies such as the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA), to the development of the Maldives. The statement was made by Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid during a meeting with Han Dongman, the Special Envoy and Ambassador of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of South Korea. He undertook a visit to the Maldives from November 13-14.

During the meeting, Minister Shahid welcomed Special Envoy Han to the Maldives and noted the visit would serve to further strengthen the bilateral relations between the Maldives and South Korea, as 2022 marks the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries. He also expressed his eagerness to see the expansion of relations between the two countries in the fields of economic and technical cooperation.

Special Envoy Han was accompanied by the Ambassador of South Korea to the Maldives Woonjin Jeong and other senior officials. During the visit, he also called on the Speaker of Parliament President Mohamed Nasheed, Minister for Economic Development Fayyaz Ismail, and the Minister of Tourism Dr. Abdulla Mausoom.
