National diabetes screening campaign commences

The Diabetes Society of the Maldives has begun a national campaign to screen for diabetes.

The campaign was launched by Minister of State for Health Dr. Shah Mahir at the ceremony held in Dhiggaru, Meemu Atoll, to commemorate World Diabetes Day. The screening campaign will be held on all inhabited islands.

Speaking at the ceremony, State Minister Mahir highlighted the efforts of the government to treat diabetes and promote healthy living. He said the association, the government, and all relevant stakeholders need to work together to expand screening and that, in the near future, a platform will be established to help screen for diabetes.

Diabetes Society conducted various activities in Dhiggaru to commemorate World Diabetes Day. As such, the association held a walk, aquatic exercises, and information sessions to provide information on the disease to local health workers and students. The association also donated body fat monitors to the island's health centre.
