Hoarafushi bottling plant to begin operations in January 2023

Fenaka Corporation Limited has stated that the bottling plant in Hoarafushi, Haa Alifu Atoll, will begin operations in January 2023.

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Ahmed Saeed said the bottling plant is the most unique project commenced in the atolls and that it will be the biggest bottling plant in the Maldives. He said the plant is a unique concept in terms of the building, its services, and technology, and that the largest water purification laboratory will also be built in Hoarafushi as part of the project.

Additionally, Saeed said that all necessary machinery has been transported to Hoarafushi and the building is nearly complete, adding that the plant will begin operations in January. He said Fenaka aims to develop the plant in different phases and expand its services to all parts of the Maldives.

Fenaka was contracted to build the glass water bottling plant in Hoarafushi in July 2020. The project is a joint venture with the Hoarafushi Island Council and includes building the bottling plant with the capacity to produce 10,000 to 12,000 bottles per day, as well as installing a dispenser to provide water to every household on the island. The project is expected to significantly increase the island's income for development and provide nearby islands and resorts with easy access to water.

The water bottling plant is part of India's High-Impact Community Development Projects which are conducted under the umbrella agreement signed by the Maldives in 2019 for Indian Grant Assistance for the Implementation of High Impact Community Development Projects through local bodies.
