MPL discusses ways to expand trade between Tuticorin and Maldives

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed that a high-level delegation of the Coastal Mechanised Sail Vessel Owners’ Association of Tuticorin in India has arrived in the Maldives for discussions.

The delegation included the owners of vessels that usually bring food and other goods to the country. The Maldives has a 100-year history of importing goods from the Tuticorin route and 90% of the perishable goods imported to the country are imported from Tuticorin.

During the meeting, the delegation visited MPL and met with the senior management and relevant departments of the company. The aim of the delegation's visit to the Maldives from November 20 -23 was to discuss how to improve services and cooperation in mutual areas of interest to boost bilateral trade relations between the two countries.

The delegation is also scheduled to visit Kulhudhuffushi Regional Port and Hithadhoo Regional Port (HRP) operated by MPL. In addition, meetings will be held with the city and atoll councils of the areas where the regional ports are located, including businessmen, civil society, and women's development committees (WDCs).
