Dharanboodhoo residents thankful for equitable development

Dharanboodhoo Island Council has expressed appreciation on behalf of the residents of the island for the government’s equitable development of all islands, whether large or small.

During a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, the island council expressed their appreciation for the development of the harbour in Dharanboodhoo, Faafu Atoll. They noted the government’s policy of developing all islands without neglecting small communities, which resulted in a large and modern harbour being developed in Dharanboodhoo.

Additionally, the Dharanboodhoo Island Council provided information to President Solih on the ongoing projects on the island and the immediate needs of the residents. As such, the council stated that the sewerage project is ongoing and requested the government to build coastal protection structures and a social centre, and approve its land-use plan. They also noted other issues such as the council’s small budget, space constraints at the school, and the underdeveloped health centre.

The Women’s Development Committee (WDC) was also present at the meeting. They expressed concern over the space and financial constraints which hinders their work.

At the meeting, President Solih provided information on the development plan for Dharanboodhoo and assured that the concerns raised by the island council and WDC will be solved after discussions with the relevant authorities.
