Gov't made changes to build a good society: Vice President

Vice President Faisal Naseem has said the government has made important changes in its policies to remove obstacles to family relationships and building a good society. He made the remarks while speaking at the inauguration of the Geveshi Gulhun Campaign of the Ministry of Gender, Family and Social Services to create awareness of and eliminate domestic abuse and violence.

During the ceremony, Vice President Naseem launched the Children's Story Series, consisting of age-appropriate stories to teach children about family and social morals. The ministry also launched an audiobook of its magazine and a video song at the function. The main objective of the campaign by the gender ministry is to prepare the next generation with a good upbringing through strengthened family relationships.

Speaking at the ceremony, Vice President Naseem said that domestic issues have always been a major issue in Maldivian society, adding the family environment of the children is becoming a major obstacle to developing good citizens. He further noted that many of the important works of building a good society begin with the parents, adding that young age is when children note things in their minds and learn, and the environment in which they live shapes the whole life of the child.

Noting children learn good habits in a good environment where their parents have a good relationship, Vice President Naseem highlighted if a child lives in an environment where bad behavior is seen, children also learn the bad qualities seen in such an environment. He expressed concern that it is one of the major reasons why children are mentally affected and exposed to such abuse.

Furthermore, Vice President Naseem said that every action is a responsibility warning that everyone has to be careful not to harm one's child. He said the government is also making important efforts to build a better society through family relationships.
