Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali has attended the Board of Directors meeting for the Global Partnership in Education (GPE).
Education Minister Aishath Ali attended the meeting in her capacity as the Alternate Board Member to represent the Asia and Pacific Constituency of the GPE. She was accompanied by Education Development Professional at the education ministry Aishath Hassan. It is the first time the meeting has been held physically in three years since the COVID-19 pandemic. A retreat meeting was also held prior to the board meeting.
During the meeting, board members discussed the national commitments made by developing country partners following the Transforming Education Summit held in New York, United States (US) in September 2022. The Maldives also presented its national statement on education at the summit.
The meeting focused on the important discussions and findings among the Board members regarding the GPE 2025 goals. The members also discussed the recognition that progress in addressing learning disabilities and increasing debt burdens, as well as the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, displacement, food shortages, and climate change.
GPE is the largest global funding partner dedicated solely to transforming education in lower-income countries. The quality of education in more than 70 countries is being improved under the GPE.
