Passengers to be charged for RTL ferry service in Lhaviyani Atoll

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has decided to charge passengers for the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service in Lhaviyani Atoll.

MTCC began the high-speed ferry service in Lhaviyani Atoll on November 22 and allowed passengers to use it for free to familiarise them with the service until November 27. However, the deadline was later extended by the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure. Tickets will soon be available for purchase at the RTL website and mobile application. The price of a ticket for the Lhaviyani routes ranges between USD2-8.

Two ferries are being used to establish three routes between six islands in Lhaviyani Atoll. As such, the ferries are travelling on routes connecting Olhuvelifushi, Kurendhoo, Felivaru, Madivaru, Naifaru, and Hinnavaru.

MTCC said the main objective of the free trips was to familiarise the public with the ferry schedule and give them the opportunity to experience the service and to improve the quality and strengthen the service in line with public opinion. The RTL high-speed ferry service has been established in Zone 1 of the National Public Ferry Network, which consists of 30 inhabited islands in Haa Alifu Atoll, Haa Dhaalu Atoll, and Shaviyani Atoll.
