Faresmaathodaa Island Council has commended the government for giving its full support to the local development initiatives.
They made the remark at a meeting with President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih during his visit to Faresmaathodaa, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
At the meeting, members of the Faresmaathodaa Island Council highlighted the many development projects initiated on the island because of the government. They noted that the ministries and state-owned companies have been giving their full support and assistance for the projects.
Additionally, the council requested the government’s assistance in upgrading the council secretariat and building a conference hall. They also asked the government to develop a road connecting the harbour to the airport and fix the waste management issues, as well as introduce banking services on the island.
President Solih thanked the council and residents of Faresmaathodaa for giving him a warm welcome during his arrival on the island to join the Fishermen’s Day celebrations, noting that the region is known for its fishing activities. He also said that the government is continuing its efforts to hold discussions with citizens prior as it initiates local development projects and assured that he will speak to the relevant state institutions to provide solutions to the concerns addressed at the meeting.
