Hanimaadhoo Island Council has revealed the permanent list of recipients for land allocation.
The council decided to allocate 200 land plots of 3,000 acres for residential purposes. The application period for the land was opened from February 20 to March 31 this year. The provisional list of marks given to the applications was released on November 17 by the committee appointed to evaluate the complaints submitted by the applicants and information received from the islands. Individuals who had any complaints about the marks obtained and the way they have been included in the list had until December 6 to submit their complaints.
After considering the complaints submitted during the complaint period, the council has now released the permanent list of land recipients. The list includes 212 people as eligible recipients. Out of the 200 applicants, 195 people have been awarded land with more than 70 marks. The remaining five plots will be allocated by drawing lots among 17 eligible candidates who received 70 marks.
Speaking to PSM News, President of Hanimaadhoo Island Council Abdul Sattar Hassan said that the 200 plots will be allocated only to those registered in Hanimaadhoo. He said the 200 plots will be allocated only to those registered in Hanimaadhoo with the aim to provide relief to the increasing number of people in need of housing on the island. He also said that out of the 200 plots to be allocated in Hanimaadhoo, the recipients of five plots will be selected by lucky draw and the land allocation process is expected to be completed by the end of December.
The council stated that Hanimaadhoo is facing a housing problems like many islands in the Maldives. The council has opened the land for individuals to live on the island after about 12 years.
