Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has decided to publicise the registration numbers of all road vehicles submitted for registration.
The transport ministry stated the decision was taken to ensure the validity of all vehicles registered and not to facilitate corruption and prevent anyone from committing illegal activities. The registration numbers of all road vehicles registered by the transport ministry will be made publicly available on its website from December 13.
Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation Aishath Nahula has earlier warned to take immediate action against illegal road vehicle registration. She said that fraudulently registered vehicles are being identified as part of the efforts being made to strengthen the work of the ministry and the audit being conducted. She said every step necessary to prevent corruption will be taken regardless of the person or title. She assured the ministry will work without any hesitation to ensure no corruption.
