The Maldives and Pakistan have held discussions regarding Pakistani religious scholars giving sermons in the Maldives. The relevant discussions were held during a meeting held between the High Commissioner of Pakistan to the Maldives Vice Admiral (Rtd.) Muhammad Fayyaz Gilani and the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir.
During the meeting, Minister Zahir appreciated the visit by High Commissioner Fayyaz. The minister explained the work carried out under the ministry and the efforts being made to increase religious awareness. In addition, he shared information on such programmes conducted for children, especially school students.
Meanwhile, High Commissioner Fayyaz said that students will not go astray when growing up if they are made aware of Islamic culture during their school days. He also inquired about the areas where Pakistan can provide assistance and assured of assistance in such areas.
Furthermore, the meeting also discussed the possibility of bringing Pakistani religious scholars to the Maldives to give sermons. They also discussed the provision of additional training in areas within the mandate of the ministry.
