MTCC tests lights for night flights at Faresmathoda Airport

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that lights have been installed and tested for night flights at Faresmathoda Airport. The final preparations for the opening of the airport are currently underway.

MTCC stated that all major development of the airport has been completed including the structure of the terminal, the runway, the airport fire building, and the air traffic control tower. MTCC said the air traffic control tower, radar, and runway lighting systems were tested, adding the procurement of machinery and equipment required to open the airport is also underway. MTCC is making efforts to complete the airport by February 2023.

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC to design and build Faresmaathodaa Airport in November 2020 at a cost of USD9.3 million. The airport is being developed to cater to domestic flights. Local residents are greatly expecting the completion of the airport, as it would ease travel and pave the way for further development of the local tourism sector and provide better socio-economic opportunities in the southern atolls.
