MACL requests passengers to arrive three hours before departure

Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has requested all passengers to arrive at the airport three hours before departure.

MACL, which operates Velana International Airport (VIA), said that passengers are requested to arrive at the airport three hours before departure to reduce delays and queues. In addition, all passengers are requested to fill out the IMUGA form before check-in.

These days are the peak season for the Maldives and many changes have been made to strengthen the services provided by the airport. The Maldives Immigration has also increased the number of service counters. As such, a total of eleven counters for departure and 11 counters for arrival have been added.

Furthermore, MACL has opened a new runway and seaplane terminal at VIA, which is expected to speed up operations. As such, the airport throughput capacity will increase from eight to two aircraft per hour and the distance between the landing of two aircraft will be reduced to three minutes from 10 minutes. The runway will also be cleared within a maximum of one minute and the newly opened Noovilu Seaplane Terminal brings seaplane services under one roof which provides more space for MACL operations at the airport.
