Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has begun accepting applications for land plots in Hulhumale’ to be leased to garages operating in Male’ City. The deadline for submissions is January 2.
HDC will be leasing 23 land plots to transfer garages from Male’ to Hulhumale’. HDC said garages in Male’ that are smaller than 1,000sqft will be given 1,000sqft of land in Hulhumale’, while garages that are over 1,000sqft will be given 1,300sqft of land plots. The state-owned company will allow two-storey garages to be built on the land plots.
Many garages in Male’ are operating in limited spaces in residential buildings. The garages pose risks of dangerous incidents due to welding, tinkering, and the use of chemicals at the premises, and HDC believes moving the garages to Hulhumale’ will minimise such risks.
